After a few years of labor on my film I could not ask for a better week-long celebration than Slamdance. Although I hardly slept it still feels like I absorbed only a fraction of what festival season in Park City has to offer. It is a real honor to have been invited into the Slamdance gang; such love, humor and passion for film. There’s a line I came across in James Joyce’s, An Encounter, that makes me think of every festival rejection letter, every door that I knock on that goes unanswered; “The sun went behind some clouds and left us to our jaded thoughts and the crumbs of our provisions.”- so thank you Slamdance for opening your door and taking my cold submission based strictly upon its own merit. Experience has shown me that the most difficult growth is in just getting out of the soil, so this first exposure is very special to me.
Slamdance 2011 was a blast. I have some exciting news about Shunka to come, but first here’s our submission for the Panasonic AF100 one minute film competition in Park City. The five other contestants produced some really great work. It was definitely a challenge and a great way to test out this new camera.
Slamdance is just a few weeks away and I am getting excited about the two Shunka screenings. I was just informed that a pitch Keith Hopkin and I submitted for a Panasonic one minute film contest was accepted. We will be handed the new Panasonic AG-AF100 for one day to shoot our film and then edit for a screening that week. The winner will take home the AG-AF100.
I will be participating in a round table about shooting in HD. More info and a PDF of the special events taking place at Slamdance 2011 below.

Submission record for Slamdance
Culled from a record number of submissions, the 18 films playing in competition at the 2011 Slamdance Film Festival include 14 world premieres in a nod to the fest’s goal of fostering up-and-coming indie filmmakers who are working in brutal economic times.
